Can You Spot La Chicholina?
Take a look at this 19th century Mexican building after suffering the worst Earthquake Mexico City has ever experienced in decades (1985). Can you spot the Chicholina corbels (stone brackets) on the facade of the building? These same hand-carved cantera stones were used to create moulds to enable the reproduction of cultured cast stone pieces, seen in this lovely Kitsilano home as a fireplace surround. It makes quite a nice statement piece of recreated Mexican history, older than the birth of Canada.
